With the construction data specialists describing the region as “buzzing”, it has compiled the contractors winning the most work over the past 12 months.
Enka takes top spot after having secured the construction of a low carbon hydrogen production plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, worth £350m.
Kier Group took second place with 11 projects won over this period, worth a combined £217m.
This included a £116m contract to overhaul HMP Lancaster Farms in Lancashire, with the construction of two new house blocks and a multi-use games area.

Bowmer & Kirkland took the third spot with five projects worth a combined £106m.
One of their standout projects is a £60m 12-storey office block next to Victoria Station in Manchester.
Glencar Construction took 10th place with two projects worth £47m in total.
According to Glenigan, industrial and office building work are two key areas of future construction opportunity in the North West.
This was based on non-residential building approvals between March 2024 and February 2025.
During this time, industrial projects accounted for 42% of all positive decisions, with office buildings the next most prominent at 31%.
